The Margibi Sub-Association has intensified its engagement with football clubs in the county, holding a briefing with teams from the Women’s Division, Community Leagues, and Third Division as preparations continue for the upcoming nationwide football league. The meeting, which brought together representatives of participating clubs and officials of the Margibi Sub-Association, focused largely on administrative compliance, player registration and transfers, preparations for the new football season, and the need for clubs to strengthen their organizational structures. During the briefing, Secretary General Matthew Andrews outlined several important requirements that clubs are expected to fulfill ahead of the commencement of nationwide competitions. Clubs Urged to Complete Administrative Requirements One of the major issues emphasized by Secretary General Andrews was the need for every club to ensure that its administrative documentation is in order. He stressed the importance of clubs submitting their Articles of Incorporation, establishing and properly managing their Connect System accounts, and maintaining an official bank account. According to Andrew Jimmy, these requirements are crucial to the proper administration and recognition of clubs, particularly as football authorities continue efforts to improve the management and accountability of clubs participating in organized football competitions. The Secretary General encouraged club administrators not to wait until the last minute to complete the requirements, noting that proper documentation will help facilitate registration and other official processes. The meeting therefore served as an important reminder to clubs that participation in organized football goes beyond activities on the pitch and requires clubs to maintain the necessary administrative and institutional structures. Player Transfers Continue Another key issue discussed was the ongoing player transfer window. Secretary General Andrews informed the clubs that player transfers will remain open until the end of August 2026. Clubs were therefore encouraged to use the remaining period to complete their player movements, registrations, and other necessary procedures before the transfer period closes. The transfer window is particularly important for clubs seeking to strengthen their squads ahead of the new football season. Teams participating in the Women’s Division, Community Leagues, and Third Division are expected to use the period strategically while ensuring that all player-related processes are completed in accordance with football regulations. Nationwide League Expected in September Providing an update on the national football calendar, Andrews disclosed that the nationwide football league is expected to open in September 2026. The announcement gives clubs only a limited period to finalize preparations, including player registration, administrative documentation, training, and team organization. With the new season approaching, the Margibi Sub-Association is expected to continue working with clubs to ensure that teams are adequately prepared and meet the necessary requirements before the start of nationwide competition. The Secretary General’s briefing also encouraged clubs to begin preparing their teams early rather than waiting until the league officially begins. Friendly Matches for Women’s Clubs In a significant development for women’s football in the county, Secretary General Matthew Andrews also expressed his willingness to help organize friendly matches involving three female clubs. According to Andrews, Liberian Falconets FC will be one of the clubs expected to participate in the proposed friendly matches. The initiative is intended to give the participating teams an opportunity to prepare competitively ahead of the new season. Friendly matches can provide clubs with an opportunity to assess new players, test different formations, evaluate team chemistry, and improve players’ physical and tactical readiness. For Liberian Falconets FC, participation in such matches would also provide an opportunity for the club to assess its squad ahead of the upcoming nationwide competition. Strengthening Football at the Local Level The engagement between the Margibi Sub-Association and the clubs comes at a time when local football authorities are seeking to strengthen the organization and development of football at the sub-association level. The participation of clubs from different categories, including the Women’s Division, Community Leagues, and Third Division, reflects the broader effort to ensure that football development extends beyond the top levels of competition. The meeting also provided an avenue for clubs to receive direct information from the Sub-Association and better understand the administrative steps required ahead of the new football calendar. With the transfer window closing at the end of August and the nationwide league expected to commence in September, clubs now face a short but important preparation period. Club administrators are expected to complete their documentation, finalize player movements, strengthen their squads, and prepare their teams for the challenges of the new season. The Margibi Sub-Association is expected to maintain its engagement with clubs as preparations continue, while the proposed women’s friendly matches could provide an early competitive test for teams preparing for the 2026/27 football campaign.
