Nimba firebrand senator challenges MDR leadership’s August 30 ouster, insists Liberia is a country of law as party chairman orders removal of his photos and return of party belongings

MONROVIA – Nimba County’s fiery senator, Samuel G. Kogar, has shrugged off his expulsion from the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR), declaring that the party’s strategy against him was “exposed long ago” and vowing to contest the decision in court.

Speaking in defiance of the Saturday, August 30, 2026 ouster, Kogar insisted he remains undeterred, describing the move as illegitimate and asserting that Liberia is a country governed by the rule of law.

“It is no secret that their strategy to expel me has been exposed a long time ago. I am not deterred because Liberia is a country of law, and they will meet me at the court,” the senator declared, signaling his determination to challenge the expulsion through legal channels rather than accept it quietly.

A defiant Kogar added: “I have not wronged the party, and I will not be intimidated. This expulsion is not the end of my political journey it is only the beginning of a fight for fairness and justice.”

The dramatic development follows a disclosure by the Minister of Labour, who also serves as Chairman of the MDR, confirming that Senator Kogar had been expelled by the party’s executive committee members.

“As chairman of this party, I can confirm that Senator Kogar has been expelled by the executive committee members,” the Labour Minister stated. “In my capacity as chairman, I will be instructing my Vice Chair for Administration to take down every photograph of the senator from our surroundings, including our social media pages.”

The Minister further pressed: “Senator Kogar is also being asked to turn over every item in his possession that belongs to the party.”

But Kogar, known for his combative political style and affectionately dubbed a “fire burning” representative of Nimba County, appeared unmoved by the directive.

Casting himself as a victim of a long-simmering internal conspiracy, the senator suggested the expulsion was part of a premeditated strategy that had already been anticipated and laid bare.

His remarks underscore a deepening rift within the MDR, raising fresh questions about the party’s internal cohesion and the political fallout that may follow as the matter heads for adjudication.

As both sides dig in, all eyes now turn to the courts, where Kogar’s promised legal battle will ultimately determine the fate of his membership in the party he once helped lead.
