Board of Trustees directive ends work-from-home arrangements as university prepares for resumption of classes August 25

MONROVIA — The University of Liberia has officially ordered all faculty and staff members back to the workplace, with university president Dr. Layli Maparyan issuing a memorandum that makes on-site attendance mandatory effective Monday.
The communication, which comes in the wake of a prolonged go-slow action by the university’s teaching staff and other workers, confirmed that all faculty and staff are required to report to work on site at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, August 17, 2026, with attendance described as mandatory.
The memorandum outlined that all administrative offices will resume full operations, while academic departments are expected to begin immediate on-site preparations to guarantee the orderly resumption of classes on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.
The directive follows weeks of industrial tension on campus, during which academic staff and other workers staged a sustained go-slow that disrupted university operations and raised concerns over the institution’s academic calendar.
The university leadership underscored its commitment to upholding the academic calendar and maintaining professional standards across the institution.
“The Board of Trustees and the university administration remain fully aligned in upholding our academic calendar and maintaining professional standards across campus,” the communication read in part.
The administration issued a firm warning that disruption, unauthorized absence, and non-compliance would be addressed in accordance with institutional policy.
“We expect every employee to report on Monday and fulfill their professional obligations to our students, the university, and the nation,” the memorandum stated.
The return-to-work directive signals the university’s determination to end the go-slow impasse and transition back to a fully operational physical campus environment ahead of the new academic session.
