Two-week intensive course in Monrovia strengthens maritime safety, security, and the enduring Liberia–US partnership

MONROVIA — The United States Coast Guard is training members of the Liberian Coast Guard in small boat operations as part of a renewed push to strengthen maritime safety and security in the region.
The two-week intensive training, currently underway in Monrovia, covers a wide range of critical maritime skills, including boat handling, safe mooring and unmooring, man-overboard recovery, emergency response, and engineering casualty control.
According to the U.S. Embassy in Monrovia, the exercise reflects the enduring partnership between Liberia and the United States and their shared commitment to maritime security and safety across the region’s waters.
The initiative comes at a time when maritime capacity-building remains a priority for Liberia, underscoring the importance of international cooperation in equipping the country’s coastal forces with the practical skills needed to patrol, respond, and safeguard its waters.
